Episode 69: Connecting the Dots

This week, Peter and Robyne reflect on the power of clarity: how to clearly see how we’ve spent our days and better understand the cumulative experiences that can explain where we are (and how we feel) right now. Plus, fighting the urge of distraction to make space for new discoveries.

Today’s surprise question:
What are some of the moments from the last time we’ve seen each other that we want to appreciate and make meaning of?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- When achieving goals or improving the quality of our days, it’s not about ‘I have arrived!’ - it’s recognizing all the cumulative pieces you’re picking up through the process
- When your daily habits are in good shape, it allows you to be open to the more subtle nuances and glimmers of beauty in your day
- It’s good for kids to have alternate adult figures in their lives because sometimes friends of parents are able to establish a unique relationship with their friend’s kids that allows them access that parents can’t attain because of their familiarity and parental dynamic
- It’s incredible what a great question, great listening, and vulnerability can create in such a short period of time
- Rather than thinking about a busy day as a ‘blur’, try to pinpoint and reflect on a few standout moments that give clarity and meaning to all the things that happened in that day
- Sometimes our modern distractions like phones and social media don’t allow us to properly process bad moments of our day because we automatically jump to our devices rather than having unstimulated time afterward to think about what had just happened

Often in life, I think we are waiting for the big moments. Yet, it’s actually the moment-to-moment that is really where life happens. – Peter
