Episode 87: Doing Nothing Is Doing Something

On this week’s In Time, Peter and Robyne explore how the body deals with crisis — and how the choices we make can support or sabotage these natural processes. Plus, how to honour both the giver and receiver in moments of apology.

Today’s surprise question:
How do you feel about Christmas carols, and when is the right moment in the season for them to emerge?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Doing nothing is doing something - rest & rejuvenation are part of the natural cycle of productivity and growth
- They discuss Peter’s stressful day removing a tick 15 mins before a very important keynote speaking event
- It’s fascinating how the body releases adrenaline and cortisol in order to deal with crisis situations where you need to act fast with hyperfocus and diligence
- So often we experience adrenaline/cortisol events in our day-to-day lives, but our societal expectations often force us to suppress talking action on them, so we don’t get to process them properly, causing them to build up in our systems and cause us to be sick
- The majority of people who die from choking die alone in a bathroom, so if you’re choking, stay visible and communicate what you need - don’t worry about looking foolish when your life is at risk
- When receiving an apology for something someone did to you, don’t respond with “It’s ok” - it’s not ok…respond with “Thank you for taking the time to apologize”, or “I forgive you” (if it feels authentic)

Rest and rejuvenation are part of the natural cycle of productivity and growth. – Peter
