Episode 117: Feeling Transformed
Peter and Robyne examine frameworks of transformation, and how they might help us to conceptualize, navigate, and reflect on periods of change. How do these models help us to “make sense” of what we’ve lived, and how can they help us make choices for the days ahead?
Today’s surprise question:
What is one little ‘joy snack’ you’re looking forward to this weekend — or one you just experienced in the previous week?

Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Peter discusses the cycle of transformation as a seven-ish year cycle that takes the form of a figure-8 - the centre is the starting point, and from there you go out on an adventure and loop up to the top of the 8, (this is your peak experience - an ‘ah-ha moment’ - ‘I’ve done it! I’ve transformed!’), then you eventually return home, where all the same triggers and issues exist - this causes you to stall out in this home zone. Then, in reaction to that, you eventually slide down to the bottom of the 8, through a letting-go phase, grief and denial, rebirth, and a surge of creativity and power, helping you circle back around to the home zone as a transformed person
- We need not be intimidated by transformation in our lives - we are always in a season of transformation, whether we realize it or not
- We are often sparked into a transformation by an antecedent, something that happens to us that pushes us out of what’s familiar
- Robyne suggests ‘transformation’ isn’t an accurate description of it, because you will always have core parts of yourself with you forever - she says ‘reinvention’ seems more accurate, putting you more in the driver’s seat about what you choose to keep or let go of
- Different stages of this transformation require different focuses and levels of energy/commitment - sometimes it’s about hustling, and sometimes it’s about taking time to reflect
We are always in a season of transformation. We are always in a season of change. – Robyne
