Episode 79: Preparing for the Best

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- In your checklist things you’d like to accomplish in life, be careful to protect and foster the ones that are your dreams - the ones that give you a sense of pride and identity
- There’s something meditative and relaxing about doing repetitive tasks leading to a goal
- Physical labour allows us to get out of our heads and into our bodies, which is always a good thing in our modern age of office culture
- The principles of ‘thirds’ in distribution states that 1/3 of the time you will get through things and excel with ease - 1/3 of the time your experience will be neutral - and 1/3 of the time you will have a more difficult time getting through it - which means in the big picture, things are bound to go fairly smoothly at least 2/3 of the time, which makes doing things feel less intimidating
- 'Triggers' are our nervous system and mind making predictions in order to prepare us for potentially bad situations, based on our previous experiences
- We tend to learn from things that have gone badly, but we should also remember to learn from things that have gone well - our successes leave clues, so remember to take the time to pick up those clues and learn from them

As much as we can learn from our mistakes and the things that went wrong, we can also learn from the things that have gone well. – Peter
