Episode 132: The Moments That Matter

On today’s episode of In Time, Peter and Robyne reflect on the moments that make us feel deeply seen – from a sold-out concert that exceeded every hope to a quiet comment that reminded a mother her hard work truly mattered. How do we hold onto gratitude for what we have without taking it for granted? Why do we fixate on the one critic instead of the ninety-nine people cheering us on? And what happens when we start asking more generative questions that invite richer stories from the people around us? Plus, a reminder to handle what we cherish with care.

Show Notes

Highlights:
- Peter describes his most recent sold out concert as being beyond special, and one of the best experiences of his life, after not being sure that he would ever get to do one this big again
- Robyne feels seen and appreciated after her son expresses to his brother how they are living life on ‘easy mode’ because of how hard Robyne has worked for them, and it felt like a big moment for her
- After hearing many parents complain about the hardships of parenting, Peter expresses how they need to appreciate how lucky they are to have kids, when there are people, Peter included, who really want them
- Robyne elaborates on how we have to be careful about being flippant about what we have, because we don’t know how much the people around us wish they had that same thing
- If 99 people love what we are doing, and 1 person doesn’t, we will naturally harp on the one negative comment thinking we need to win them over - we need to work against our nature to overcome this
- Peter encourages us to ask more ‘generative’ questions, ones that pulls stories from people, in order to have more meaningful conversations

“Our perspective grows in relation to our lived experience.” – Robyne
