Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Don’t feel pressure that New Year’s Eve is the only day of the year you are able to make proactive positive changes of habits
- If New Year’s resolutions don’t work for you, try ‘Appreciative Inquiry’, which is acknowledging the wisdom, lessons, and strengths from our past and present so we’re not always seeking to change ourselves for the better, but instead reminding ourselves of the skills we already have, and continue improving on those
- Shame as a way to promote better behaviour is not a tactic that works - positive reinforcement is much more effective
- When attempting to give up something for New Year’s (like sugar), allow yourself to feel the impulse to indulge, but instead sit with that impulse for a moment, and allow yourself to feel the discipline of it settling
- Sometimes we can exhibit protest behaviour when forced to do something creative under pressure, but perhaps it’s our mind’s way of reminding us not to do creative work in an uninspired analytical way
There’s so much that we’re doing already that if we took the time to look at it, appreciate it, and unpack it, it might actually serve us in creating those new things that we want. – Peter
