Episode 94: Looking Back, Moving Forward

On the final episode of the year, Peter and Robyne look back at 2024 and reflect on how to mark meaning, show reverence, and preserve notable lessons before turning the page to the year ahead. Plus, how to avoid the pressure to party ‘til midnight (or beyond!).

Today’s surprise question:
Is there a moment from the past year that taught you a significant lesson of some kind that you can carry forward into 2025?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Don’t get sucked into the idea of New Year’s Eve requiring you to be at a huge party and have lofty goals for the coming year - if that doesn’t work for you, then no pressure - do your own thing
- Alternatively, you could have a gentle day of reverence for the year that’s just passed if that’s more your pace, taking account of all the blessings from the previous year so you can carry them forward into the next
- Try doing an exercise at the end of each year where you go through your pictures and calendars, and think of the events and people that gave meaning to your year
- It’s funny how people can watch graphically violent movies and not bat an eye, but then the characters in a Disney movie can bring them to tears with a simple touching moment

Our past is an asset or a liability; it just depends on how we reflect on it and how we ask questions about it. – Peter
