Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- When things are a lot, do less - to avoid feeling overwhelmed by life, try starting your day getting out of bed, getting dressed, and putting on running shoes to charge your instinct to move
- ‘Motivation’ is setting the alarm for 6am - ‘Discipline’ is getting up and following through
- Reframing ‘discipline’ as ‘devotion’ allows us to think of it in terms of passion rather than self-punishment
- Peter & Robyne debate the idea that ‘people are kind of the way they are, and that won't change over the course of our lives as much as we think it can'
- Robyne explains how it's her belief that although people may have a set of innate personality traits, these traits can be worked on, developed and eventually changed with effort
- Robyne goes over tactics on how anxious flyers can stay calm on flights: 1) Self-awareness of your lack of control in this situation, 2) Maintain eye contact with the flight crew to see whether they are calm, and 3) Pretend ‘gravity’ is space jello that the plane is surrounded by that will prevent it from falling out of the sky
I wholeheartedly believe that one of the most amazing things about the human condition is that we can evolve and adapt. – Robyne
