Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- People often feel they are not doing enough to make the world a better place, but if you are living authentically and adding to the world in some way, you are doing your part
- The hardest part of dealing with controversial subjects is navigating saying the wrong thing - be sure not to let this fear completely silence you, because sometimes saying something from your heart that comes out wrong is better than saying nothing at all
- Be aware of ‘Bystander Effect’, a phenomenon where you don’t feel obligated to help someone in crisis because you assume someone else is going to help them - what can happen is that no one ends up helping them
- We don’t all need to be on the front lines of activism - living our authentic lives and keeping in communication with our inner circles is also a way to influence the narrative and stay connected
- When communicating with someone who is suffering, we don’t need to have answers - we can just express to those who are hurting that we are here to love them, support them, and be educated by them
- Forgiveness is the ultimate act of love
- Be careful not to become so entrenched in politics and current events that your empathy becomes desensitised
If we want to be allies and supporters, we have to make sure that we’re okay to be able to show up to be of service and learn. – Robyne
