Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Tips for good conversations at events - people like talking about themselves, so ask questions, and remind yourself that the person right in front of you is the person you are meant to be talking to (stop scanning the room for a better conversation to be had)
- After being a bit isolated or working remotely for a time, it’s natural to have a period of relearning how to be social in group environments
- We often don’t see ourselves in the same way others see us - we can feel we did poorly at something, while others may be in awe of what we just did
- When we see people handling situations with ease, it’s important to remember that what they are doing does take skill and effort
- Regarding traumatic stress, we all have what’s called a ‘window of tolerance’ ranging from hypoactive to hyperactive in which we operate at varying levels - ‘hypoactive’ can lead us to disconnection and exhaustion, while ‘hyperactive’ can make us anxious and unable to let go
- When we are engaged in the moment we are in, we are often fine - it’s when we step out of the moment and think about the past or present that we are more prone to anxiety
- It can help to have a few quick coping strategies handy that you know will make you instantly feel a bit better when feeling stressed
- To help you actually accomplish things, it can help to have an accountability partner that knows what your goals are and can help nudge you in that direction
Behind the scenes, it’s effortful to do pretty much everything that everybody is doing throughout the course of the day. – Robyne
