Episode 42: Carving out “You” Time

On today’s episode, Peter and Robyne offer guidelines for ensuring we get the time we need for ourselves, whether it’s to develop a new hobby, tap into our creativity or simply relax. Plus, some food for thought for your next personal conversation.

Today’s surprise questions:
When do you feel the most confident being yourself?
What sort of intentionality (if any) do you bring into a special occasion with loved ones to set the tone for?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- When sharing stories of personal experiences, be aware that sometimes people need permission to ‘go there’ and get in depth; give them that permission by leading the way
- We should approach personal conversations with the same openness artists approach working on a new piece - having curiosity for discovery, and fleshing out ideas with no set agenda
- If you are in a work situation that’s rigid and doesn’t allow time for creativity, it can be helpful to carve out some time in your schedule to keep that part of your brain active
- Before filling up your day with necessary tasks, remember to leave some room for your new interests to grow
- When scheduling time to relax, remember not to try to ‘hurry up and relax’ - it needs to happen in its own time

That spaciousness, that ability to explore, to be curious, to ideate, to iterate, that’s a beautiful part of being an artist and creative, but it’s also a beautiful part of being a human and being in relationship. – Peter
