Episode 48: Allowing Our Creative Flow

Today on “In Time”, Robyne and Peter dive into how we can best serve our creativity and get our ‘heads’ out of the way of our flow. Plus, some thoughts on the power of our self-imposed identities and how to use them to our advantage.

Today’s surprise questions:
Is there anything that you do to relax, land, and transition when you have time off?
When checking out a new podcast, how long do you listen before you decide whether or not you’ll continue?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- When doing something creative, keep working past any blocks you’re having and allow the flow to lead you somewhere unexpected, then you can go back and edit once you have your ideas out
- The job of creators is not to control or force, but to allow - to get out of the way, and channel that creativity
- The creative process of searching within oneself is worthwhile in and of itself, whether or not any meaningful outcome results
- We can’t outperform our identity - if we tell ourselves that we are overwhelmed, lazy, etc., we won’t be able to overcome that self-imposed identity
- When there is a big task at hand that we are avoiding, we often end up completing numerous other tasks in order to avoid the anxiety of tackling the bigger one we need to get to
- The biggest impetus for change is when we get tired of our own bullshit
- Sometimes the clothing we wear influences the energy we take on while wearing it, so set the conditions for the task at hand - try having the right outfits available to relax, workout, go to the office, clean the house, etc.

Whether you get the greatest output or not, just the searching, curiosity, and exploration is so worthwhile in and of itself.  Peter
