On this week’s episode, Peter and Robyne explore the value of making meaningful connections at work and how showing up as our authentic selves plays a key role. Plus, how to find that balance to ensure you can still show up for your loved ones when you come through the door at the end of the day.

Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- We often spend more time with our work colleagues than we do with our own families, so try to be your authentic self at work and make real connections, rather than just pushing through without acknowledging our humanity
- Because we spend so much of our time at work, be sure to find a few colleagues you click with and can truly be yourself with in a meaningful way in order to keep yourself fulfilled and invested in that space
- Be careful not to spend all your energy on your career only to come home and find your family feels they are just getting your ‘leftovers’
- To make friends at work (or anywhere) you have to put yourself out there a bit - be the first person to say ‘hello’, and let people see who you are
- Rather than interacting transactionally with your colleagues at work, try to remember the humanity in your connection with them - take a moment to make eye contact, smile, connect in some small way
- When managing a team, model the style of interaction you expect of your team, illustrating how you can have a friendly connection and camaraderie while still being professional and getting the work done
- Make the effort to thank someone for their contribution to a group or interaction - it could mean the world to them
- Human connection is the future - it’s what the present needs to create the future that we want
It [human connection] is what the present needs in order to create the future that we want. – Peter
