Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- The invisible labour that women carry (especially women who also hold professional roles) often isn’t acknowledged or appreciated
- There is series of obstacles created by this unacknowledged invisible labour, inhibiting women’s trajectory toward success
- When applying for jobs, women tend to feel they need to already have the skills needed before they will even apply, whereas men tend to apply and assume they will learn the skills on the job
- Women have historically had to, and still have to, far outperform men to gain the same recognition and opportunities in their fields of expertise
- When hiring someone, consider your own bias and make sure your hiring choices aren’t based on predetermined stereotypes
- By acknowledging that we know there are historical biases and discriminatory practices in things like hiring, we raise our collective awareness of these issues, leading to better understanding and a wave of change toward injustice
- ‘The Ladder of Consciousness’ has 4 tiers - Unconsciously Incompetent, Consciously Incompetent, Unconsciously Competent, and Consciously Competent
- Often, the more you learn about a topic, the more you learn how little you know about that topic
- Be careful what you say around your kids, because they may pick it up, good or bad
Even the small micro-adjustments towards what is of the greatest good benefits people deeply. – Robyne
