Episode 60: A Place To Land

This week, Peter and Robyne discuss the importance of identifying and treasuring moments of completion. How can we pause our busy lives to say “Done!”, and what benefits can this recognition bring? Plus, the value of careful preparation — and of detouring from what’s been prepared.

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Be proud of your ability to be of service to others, and equally proud to have been of service to yourself, which allows you to be of service to others
- It’s so not selfish to take care of yourself - it is so worth it
- Try keeping notes on your phone documenting learnings, rememberings, and precious moments you have - label them with the date and separate them by month, so at the end of the year, you can reflect on all you experienced that year
- As adults, we are always on the go, making it harder to find moments where you can say, “That’s DONE!” like you did in your youth when a school year was over
- For public speaking, don’t be afraid to ‘play the hits’ - do what you know works, regardless of whether you’ve shared that same sentiment many times before
- That being said, it needs to be a balance between mining for what is new and fresh in today’s ever-changing world, and what you have in you to share that’s worth holding on to through all these changes
- Rule of thumb - when you work within truth, that’s not going to change - it’s how you present your truth that needs to evolve to keep it fresh
- Most people are creative in their own way, and being casually creative gets you to a certain percentage of how good you can get, but striving for that last 2% is where you need to be to keep yourself always growing and improving
- When public speaking, solid preparation allows you to be fully present and able to detour from what you’ve prepared to say on to something that has presented itself in the moment - then you can come back to your prepared structure as needed, or not

Our number one job is presence and authenticity. That is what is going to matter to people. – Peter
