Episode 75: Many Small Things

This week, Peter and Robyne discuss how our desire for big wins can distract us from the incremental power of small yet consistent accomplishments. What can the ritual of “the mundane” help connect us to our dream-come-true outcomes? Plus, how can we carry the sense of completion attached to many of youth’s many milestones to our adult lives?

Today’s surprise questions:
When travelling, do you have a system to avoid leaving things behind? Have you ever forgotten something that caused something else to go drastically wrong?
What is one memory you’d like to be able to have about what you did this summer?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Accomplishing small things regularly can yield big results in the long run
- When you are being who you are, with the right intentions, and surrounded by the right people, you don’t have to be ‘perfect’ - you can show up as you are and just be your authentic self
- Our younger lives are filled with achievements that end with a sense of completion, like a school year, a sporting season, etc., whereas our adult lives tend to be ongoing events with no end date, leaving us without a sense of accomplishment
- Try turning tedious mundane tasks you need to do in your everyday life into ritualistic meaningful moments
-  Recognize the times of day when doing work feels more effortless rather than when it feels more challenging, and try to align your work with those times to be more productive
- Conquer the most difficult task of the day when your brain is fresh

It starts with a small but intentional and meaningful commitment. – Peter
