On today’s In Time, Peter and Robyne explore the complicated relationship between investments and outcomes: Should all of our processes be outcome-oriented? Show Notes
Highlights:
- Peter wonders why we have a tendency to focus on working really hard to later enjoy life, rather than connecting with the people around us in the moment and enjoying where we are right now
- Getting into a ‘flow state’ is much easier when you are well resourced than it is when you feel depleted
- There are always going to be many different perspectives of any situation - take them all into consideration
- So much of our metrics for success are based on outcomes, but the process of working towards that outcome is where a lot of the richness lies
- Parents want their children to be successful in life, but the greater success is when they become good people to still want to stay closely connected to their parent - most of the time, if you get that part right, the other successes fall into place
- If you focus only on the final result of something you are striving for, and it doesn’t happen, it will be easy to see the entire endeavour as a failure, even if there were so many successes along the way
- Peter discusses how his brother and his brother’s wife decided not to be goal-oriented with raising their children, and rather would treat every moment they have together as just as special as when their children have big accomplishments
- Peter discusses the vulnerability Ernie Clement of the Toronto Blue Jays shared after the World Series was done, epitomizing the passion and love for his team that sports should represent
“How we show up, what we celebrate, and what we prioritize is so important.” – Robyne
