Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Peter discusses the FACES youth camp he facilitates at, and how it’s more than hiking, canoeing and climbing - it’s about discovering empathy, resiliency, and supporting each other
- When trying to connect and tap into the depths of a teenager, approach first with curiosity, and create that space for their curiosity
- When you don’t know what to do, try doing nothing - sitting in silence with someone can sometimes be more powerful than anything you could say
- “There are no bad kids, there’s only sad kids”
- You perhaps have a greater propensity to empathize with the struggle of people of a certain age (childhood, teen years, etc.) when those were the years of your life where you struggled
- A lot of our brain development happens in our teenage years, so it’s important to delay experimenting too much with drugs and alcohol during this period - “Just wait ’til you’re 25!”
- As we get older, the neurological connections our brains have made need to prioritize which connections still serve us, and in this process we begin to lose some of the connections we made in our younger years

In the moment, sometimes we don’t have to fix it or solve it. We just have to be a witness, show up with curiosity, and trust that we will have the right words at the right time. – Robyne
