Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Peter explains his new mantra of “the person who is in front of me is the person I’m meant to be talking to in this moment”, and how giving your full attention to someone in a situation is much more valuable than having your focus spread out between many different people
- Speak to people like they are valuable and worthy of your time, without having expectations of what they can do for you
- When we’re in the moment, we’re more likely ok with where we’re at - it’s when we start thinking too much about the past and the future that we start to get out of alignment
- Allow yourself to appear ‘interruptable’, so people are comfortable to ask you to pause what you’re saying and ask for clarification
- As a leader, you want to know that your team is comfortable enough to be honest and offer their input even if it conflicts with yours, and you know you’re doing a good job if this is happening
- Asking a person with ADHD who has just breezed through several thoughts quickly, ‘Can you help me connect the dots between the two subjects you just discussed’ is a helpful way of getting the clarity you need, as well as making the person feel seen and understood
- Rather than trying to make everyone fit into one system, we need to learn to take people where they’re at and embrace differences more
- When it comes to ourselves, we tend to understand that we have various facets of our personalities, but when considering others, we more easily put them into a rigid box of who they are (reliable, intellectual, untrustworthy, etc.) without allowing for them to evolve, adapt, or grow
Whoever is in front of me is exactly the person that I’m meant to be speaking to. – Peter
