Episode 11: Don’t Lead Alone
Peter and Robyne discuss how leadership doesn’t need to be lonely: though it may feel like you made it to the top alone, you didn’t — and you’ll need the support of a community to lead well. Plus, looking honestly at our role in repairing relationships, and how to discern what those who confide in us might need in return.
Today’s surprise question:

Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- When someone is sharing something they are going through, pause and ask what your role is in this interaction - to listen, to offer advice, or intervene
- Isolation in leadership - if you got to the top and you’re alone, you did it wrong - the idea that you need a community to stay on top
- Upon realizing we have relationships in our lives that need repair, we need to be able to honestly look at ourselves and our own role in what made the relationship go sour before reparations are possible
- Distinguishing between obstacles that are ‘complicated’, and ones that are ‘hard’, and the unique challenges each one presents
- Being aware of the disparate levels of entitlement people have regarding their agency when asking for what they want
If you make it to the top and you’re alone there, then maybe you didn’t do it the right way. Because you need community to keep you there. – Robyne
