Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- ‘Cognitive dissonance’, or being in the process of having to make a decision, is a very uncomfortable state for humans to be in, which is why finally making a decision, right or wrong, will bring a sense of relief
- ‘Decision fatigue’ is a state of exhaustion we experience when having to make too many decisions over the course of the day
- Learn to minimize the time spent thinking about doing the things you ‘should’ be doing, and just do them
- When it comes to self-care, we often break promises to ourselves and do the ‘bad’ thing anyway - sometimes we need to realign our trust in ourselves to honour these promises and rebuild this relationship with ourselves
- Making your thinking visible (on paper, on a blackboard, etc.) when trying to work through a process gives it much more clarity
- ‘Appreciative inquiry’ is not about ignoring problems, but rather about asking ourselves ‘what might a future look like if the solution to this problem could make the situation turn out better than I could have imagined?’
- Reconsider spending a lot of time worrying, because in spite of all the worrying we do, sometimes the worst tragedies in our lives blindside us
Familiarity, predictability, routine, and habit lighten the cognitive load. – Robyne
