Episode 21: The Strength in Saying “No”

This week, Peter and Robyne discuss the effects of the ‘gig life’ and offer useful perspectives on how to minimize mental fatigue when making a decision about when to take or pass on an opportunity. They also dive into the importance of saying ‘no’ and how it often brings more benefits than solely us getting what we need.

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Carve out time to take a well deserved break before it is absolutely needed in a desperate way
- The ‘gig life’ creates a scarcity mindset, leaving you feeling you can never fully commit to things because something may come up - so being able say ‘no’ to an opportunity is a privilege
- ‘If it is meant for me, I can’t miss it - it will find me’ - believing this can provide clarity and minimize mental fatigue when making a decision about when to take or pass on an opportunity
- Sticking to your guns and saying ‘no’ to something not only gets you what you need, but sometimes earns you respect from the person you’ve turned down as well
- In the end, after pushing aside what we ‘ought to’ do in life, our values are based on what we want to be known and remembered for
- Fear of not being able to sustain our place in life is often what prevents us from choosing to honour our values
- We are all where we are meant to be, and are doing the best with what we have
- We are often afraid of believing in ourselves and following through with the things we value, and that’s ok - allow yourself to feel that fear, but choose to do it anyway

If it’s meant for you, you can’t miss it. The world won’t let you miss it. – Robyne
