Episode 25: It’s OK to Celebrate Yourself

This week, Robyne and Peter explore how and why we are too-often too bashful in celebrating our successes; big, small, and everything in between. They offer celebrating the successes of others as a way to remember that those wins are possible for you as well and that there’s no failure in being your authentic self.

Today’s surprise questions:
Will you please share a little brag about yourself?
When you have your ‘head on the pillow’ check-in at the end of the day, what happens when you haven’t been able to accomplish what you had intended to that day?

Show Notes

We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Celebrating the success of others doesn’t diminish your success - if anything, it should give you encouragement because you now know those wins are possible for you as well
- Start a ‘Brag Hotline’ - a person you can call who wants to mutually share wins and successes with you
- Tall Poppy Syndrome in nature is the phenomenon where as soon as a poppy grows taller than the surrounding poppies, it stops growing because being the tallest poppy runs a greater risk of being picked - similarly, we are often afraid of reaching our full potential (in our lives and careers) for fear of being noticed and targeted
- It’s just as inauthentic to be overly hard on oneself as it is to be overly egotistical
- You can’t fail at being yourself

We’re all on our own journeys. We’re running our own races. If something happens and it’s positive for somebody else, that gives me encouragement that those wins are ahead for me too. – Robyne

Additional Resources:
- Quote Peter referred to: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson
- The Conscious Leaders Quest
- Quote Peter referred to: "Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." – John Donne
- The “Brag Hotline” is open! We would love for you to fill up our comments section below with your wins and good news stories.
