Show Notes
We cover many topics in this episode, including:
- Peter & Robyne discuss packing for trips - times they’ve forgotten things, and how things always work out in the end (unless it’s a camping trip where what you pack is essential for survival)
- When preparing a speaking presentation, sometimes asking the question “What does success look like for you?” gives you a broader idea of who a person is and what their motivations and obstacles are than doing a deep dive into their history
- To take the stress out of putting together the things you’ll need for a trip, it’s helpful to have all the essentials for a trip pre-packed in a separate case to use every time you need them, with everything laid out in the same place so you know where it is when you need it
- When planning a presentation, ask the person arranging the event what the feeling in the room would ideally be after a successful presentation, and what questions they would hope to be asked by the participants afterwards - this will help guide you in how you prepare your presentation.
- When something goes wrong in a presentation, see that as a gift. It’s an opportunity to remind people that you are present with them in real time, making the presentation seem more immediate and creating more of a personal connection
- Humour can be a shield, to defuse difficult things you need to say, as well as defusing big emotions coming at you from other people
- In tough situations, present yourself with gentleness, and include some deep breathing - perhaps people will follow your lead and remain calm
- Even in heated moments, the stillness we need to approach a conversation/situation with grace is always within us - trust that it’s there
Humour is this beautiful uniting force. – Peter
